What Is Vector

What is VECTOR?

In Mathematics, a vector is a directed line segment, a concept defined by magnitude and direction.  But other physical quantities compose vectors: velocity, acceleration, force.  The simplest representation of a vector is as an arrow connecting two points, from point A to point B.

Let’s try a different field of study.

A vector is also an agent of change.  In Genetics, a vector is an agent that transfers genetic material from one cell to another.

Detect any trends here?

Vector is also the course, or direction, in which a ship or airplane moves. As a verb, vector means to guide according to lines of direction (vectors).

In computer graphics, a vector is a line designated by its end points (X-Y or X-Y-Z coordinates). A completed circle is made by connecting many small vectors.

So what is the point of my rambling? This is my point:

VECTOR is not a thing, not an end point. It is what connects point A to point B.  It marks how you get from here to there.

Magnitude – Direction – Acceleration – Velocity – Force

Small or large – here to there – going slowly or growing quickly – massive impact or small victories

As someone once said, “The great thing is the start -- to see an opportunity for service, and to start doing it, even though in the beginning you serve but a single customer -- and him for nothing.”

VECTOR - Volunteer Efforts Can Turn Out Results

Now to the real point: VECTOR is a committed group of volunteers, great and small, moving in a direction, sometimes rushing there, who believe that we can be a force for change in the lives of South Carolina’s troubled and at-risk youth.  Oh – and if, at the same time, we can change the adults in their lives, we’ll do that, too!

Now, if you’re still with me take a look at some things the VECTOR Foundation is doing and let us know if you’re interested in helping.
