The Mobile Magnet After School Program is a 21st Century Community Learning Center funded through SC Department of Education. Mission Statement: Objectives: To this end, The Mobile Magnet introduces students to a unique experiential program that is geared toward increasing academic achievement, self-esteem, and computer literacy. Students in the program receive instruction in nine curricula developed by Clemson University, Youth Learning Institute (YLI). These curricula are taught by YLI instructors. These curricula are hands-on and are designed to keep students interested and motivated to learn through a “magical classroom’ where learning becomes a visceral experience. In addition, students use computers to engage in skill building exercises in core curricula. Students attend musicals and other performances to help increase social skills and develop an appreciation for the arts. They also attend a weekend camp where they participate in ropes courses, crafts, games, and just have fun. This camp experience helps the students learn team-building skills and understand that they are much more capable than they had ever dreamed. Motto The motto of the Mobile Magnet After School Program is a simple statement of positive self-talk, “I know I can”. “When others believe in you, success is possible. When you believe in
yourself, success is imminent.” Contact InformationSharon E. Williams, Project Director Sumter School District 2 Sumter School District 17
