Computer
Buddies, is a program which recruits and pairs technically trained mentors
with foster children, in an effort to encourage their greater use of
computers.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS)
is working to place refurbished computers in the homes of foster families
who have school-age foster children for the purpose of further supporting
the foster child’s educational needs. This is a first step in helping
foster children statewide overcome the digital divide that further impairs
the educational success of foster children. Plans are to expand the use of
refurbished DSS computers to foster homes statewide, for use by school-age
foster children.
